GREAT NORTHERN HURDLES WON BY EL GALLO. (By Telezrann.—rress Association.) Auckland, June 3. The Auckland Racing Club's Great Nor la em Meeting opened to-uay in perfect weather. Tne track was Heavy and holding. There was a very large attendance. The tocalisavor handled XIO.SIO lUs., as against J;3G,492 10s. for the opening day fast year. Sandy Paul and Dogger Bank were most conspicuous oil reaching the hill the first time, but Dogger Bank singled himself out coming down the hill, and was leading Ngatoa and Lady Sabretache over tile doubles and water jump. Ngatoa led into the straight from Sandy Paul and Lady Sabretache. Once over the last fence Ngatoa won easily by five lengths, whilo in a punishing finish for seconu honours Sandy Paul defeated Lady Sabretache by a neck. Wakanui irai fourth. After seme delay at the post by the fractiousntss of Fionnuala and others, the field was dispatched in two lines, there bsing no room to accommodate all the starters. Doncaster and 'Coleraiue were the immediate leaders in front of Loloma, but after three nuiongs Loloma joined Coleraine and the pair turned for home together. Inside the half-distance Salvia came fast on the rails and got within two and a half lengths of Loloma. Coleraine was third, a length behind Salvia, Stepuipaul fourth, with Glucian and Kauri King amongst the next bunch. . Time, lmin. 83 4-osec. MAIDEN HURDLES, of 200 sovs. One mile and three-quarters. Breeze, Ost. (Adams). Luperin was an early leader, but was soon displaced by Dandy Breeze, who then ran off. Going along the back, Harbour Light was amongst the leaders, bu,t he fell at the third last fence. Monathol was in front over the last half-mile, being joined by Soultikoff at th& turn. However, the last-named made a bad jump at the last fence, and Monathol ran home a winner by a length. Vascular was five lengths further off third, Golden Glow, Luperin, Valentine, and Master Regcl being the only others to finish, the rest falling at different stages. Time, 3miu. 30sec. From a good start, Tararn Jack and Jolie Fille were the actual leaders past the stand and into the back stretch, when Queen's Post took up the running. El Gallo and Corrie were amongst the bunch just behind the leaders. Goiug out on tlie last circuit, El Gallo was racing nicely in fifth position, but was third along the back, and was second to llorecambe half a mile from home, with Tragedy King handy. El Gallo cleared tho last fence safely, and eventually won by three lengths from Tragedy King, who was a length ahead of Morecambe, with Corrie fourth. Styrax and Glenorchy fell. Time, (mill. 57sec. After some delay caused by tho fractious habits of Prince Soult, the field was sent away in good line, Colonel Soult, Campeador. and Self lieing the leading division round the lirst turn. Colonel Soull had Gold Fran as his nearest attendant lour furlongs from home, but at the straight entrance several challenged. Self and Tinnpai making determined efforts in the run home.
