ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
» , ENGINE-DRIVER KILLED. (By TelesraDh.—Press Association.) Taumarunul, May 26. A fatal accident occurred on the Taringamutu Company's timber line close to Taringamutu railway station yesterday at 3 p.m. A man named Frederick Drew, aged .36, single, was driving a train of about eleven timher wagons from the timber yards to the station, assisted by T. Sponce, fireman. When within a quarter of a mile of the station tho engine ran off the lino and the locomotive overturned. Drew was pinned under the engine, his leg "being badly injured. Help arrived, and the injured man was released in a semi-con-scious state. He lived for half an hour, but died before a doctor could arrive from Taumarunui. Spence was badly bruised on the head and body, but otherwise was uninjured. FOUND DROWNED. Auckland, May 26. lhe body of a young woman was found drowned in tho harbour three miles from Avondale. ' It has been identified as that of Miss Constance May Carter, daughter of Mr. George Carter, of Northcote, who was reported missing yesterday. The body, when found, was clad in a light linen undergarment. It is surmised she got out of bed during the night under the influence of somnambulism.
