CARNIVAL ARRANGEMENTS.

The weekly committee meeting of the Now Zealand Patriotic Society was held 011 Wednesday night last, at their rooms, 18 Grey Street, Mr. E. J. Colley, presiding. There were also present: Colonel Macintosh,. Captain MacFarlane, Messrs. Dodderill, Leach. J. Macintosh, Browning, Carter, and tho lion, secretary.' Mr. H. M'Leod tendered his resignation as chairman of the society, owing to his inability to devote the necessary time to tho work. The resignation was was accepted with very much regret. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of appreciation to, Mr. M'Leod. Mr. H. G. Hill was unanimously elected chairman.

i'lio chief business of the evening was in connection with the proposed Queen Carnival, the committee discussed the matter in detail, and it was ultimately unanimously resolved' that a Queen Carnival be held, extending over three days, to commence on the King's Birthday, June 3. A sub-committee, consisting of the chairman, Mr. Dodderill, and Mr. J. Lewis was elected to interview Professor Cardston, the successful organiser of the recent carnivals at Oainaru, Timaru, and Christchurch; the sub-committee to have full power to act, and arrangements to be put in hand immediately. The committee decided that the proceeds of the carnival should bo vested for the relief of New Zealand soldiers and sailors returning from the front, incapacitated, and for the relief of the widows and dependants of the men who have given their lives lor'the Empire;-

.Vt a meeting. of the sub-epmmittee, Mr. H . G. Hill presiding,' held " yesterday afternoon, Professor Cardston was interviewed and engaged, and is to commence his duties as from Tuesday next. Professor Cardston stated that he believed it is quite possible for Wellingtou_ to surpass the splendid result achieved by the people of Canterbury. The sub-committee decided that a public meeting shall be called, to be held at the Town Hall early next week,, inviting the citizens of Wellington to co-operate with the society, with the view of making the carnival a huge success.
