FIGHTING IN MESOPOTAMIA
ENEMY COMPLETELY ROUTED The High Commissioner reports:— London, April 22, 1.15 a.m.
"The enemy's losses in the recent action at Shaiba, in tlie Persian Gulf, are now estimated at 2500. On Saturday 515 prisoners were brought to Basra.
"The pursuing parties found the Turks everywhere in disorganised retreat by road and river, and in Arab craft of thirty or forty tons burden. Twelve of the latter were captured or sunk.
"Here is now no enemy-nearer than fifty miles of Basra."
The Press Association message on the above operations (rec. April 22, 7.25 p.m.), adds:— "Our advanced cavalry has occupied Nakhailah. There is no enemy nearer than Rattan, eighteen miles north-west of Nakhailah.
