: <> — c TE RTJRU CLUB RACE. L- ' The Te Ruru Yacht dub held a race r y on Saturday for Mr. J. M'Donaid's ' trophy. The race was sailed in fine " weather and attracted a good deal of attention. The course was from Clyde Quay Wharf round Jerningham buoy, and the club's buoy at Ngahauranga, back to Jerningham, thence to the starting line. Nine boats oompeted. As the boats were rounding Jerningham s buoy those people in the vicinity of e Oriental Bay witnessed a sight that i has not been seen here for a- number 3 of years. White Wings rounded first, I closely followed by Muritai, and on the - beat up Muritai took the lead* and she r waa never passed. It was a very close . finish, however, resulting in seconds be- , tween Muritai, Rawene, and Seabird. Following were the handicaps and the results :— 1 Muritai (scr.), finishing time, 5.13 v - P.m. i , Rawene (2), finishing time, 5.15 p.m. 2 Seabird (1), finishing time 5.15 p.m. 3 Also started: White Wings (2), 5,17 ) p.m.; Nancy Stair (1), 6.21 p.m.; Trixio i (1), 5.26 p.m.; Lizzie (4), 5.33 p.m. • . Amai (8), 5.36 p.m.; Essex (12), l 5.43 p.m.

HERETAUNGA BOATING CLUB.

1 Four races were held on Saturday afternoon by the above olub, when another launch race the Hartley Cup for 18footers, the Inter-club Cup Race between the local club and the Te Aro i Sailing Club, and tho Thorndon Dinghy Sailing Club's Challenge Cup for 14footers were got off. Only .three boats competed in the Hartley Cup: Mr. Hartley's Imray, 4jmin.; Mr. Taylor's Una, Jmin.; Mr. Aldred's Irex. scratch. The Irex held the lead all the way, and finished first. Times'are as follow (Mark Foy start) : Spray, at 3 p.m., finished 4hr. 36min. lOsec.; Una, at 3.0.305e0., finished 4hr. olmin. 205c0.; Irex, at 3.4.305ec., finished 4hr, 22min. 37sec. The Ires thuß won handsomely.' The launch race was also a Mark Foy start. Messrs. Ryans 1 Pioneer, 35min., started 3.25. p.m., and finished shr. 2min. lOseo.; Messrs. Curtis and Nun's Cygnet, 20min., started 3.40 p.m., and finished ohr. lmin. 30sec.; Messrs. Jenkins and Eraser's Wairuna, 9min., started 3.51 p.m., and finished 4hr. 53min. 38sec.; Messrs. Embanks and Co.'s Vida, 9min., started 3.51 p.m., and.finished 4hr< 55min. Osec.; Messrs. Palamountains' Eclipse, scr., started 4 p.m., and finished 4hr. 58min. 20sec, The Wairuna was placed first, Vida sec-' ond, and Eclipse third. Inter-blub Cup Rqce.—Heretaunga Boating Club, Messrs. Trevethick's Runa, Bittle and Macdonald's Miro, A. Colquhoun's Gil Bias, Te. Aro Sailing Club, Mr. M'Gregor's Nan, and the Lotus. Ihis race, whioh was postponed from Saturday, February 27, owing to the capsizing of the Miro, was very keenly contested. 'From a good start the Nan gradually got away on the run to the Island buoy, which she rounded about 90 yards ahead of the Miro, the Lotus and Runa lying next. The beat to Korokoro altered, the positions, and the Miro gradually overhauled her opponent, and rounded first, and held her own on the le&d to the home buoy. The times are as follow (all boats being off scratch):—Mini, start 3.15 p.m.,- i finished 4hr. 21min,' lOsec., actual time lhr. 6min. lOsec.; Nan, start 3.15 p.m., finished. 4hr, 24min. 3sec., actual time : lhr. 9min. 3sec.; Lotus, start 3.15 p.m., ( finished 4hr. 24min. 25sec., actual time, lhr. 9min. 26sec.; Runa, start 3.15 . p.m., finished 4hr. 38min. 30sec., actual time lhr. 23min. 30sec. The Here- ! taunga Boating Club thus retain the j cup for another year. The Gil Bias i did not compete. The Thoriidon Dinghy Sailing Club's ] Cup (first race of a series or three) was won by the Miro, scratch, the Runa, j 30sec., being second. A large crowd of spectators witnessed j the event's, and considerable interest is being evinced ih the Saturday after- 1 noon's sports now being put on by this club.
