LABOUR IN AUSTRALIA SERIOUS TROUBLE PREDICTED Sydney, February 19. Mr. Rosser, president of the Railway Workers' and General Labourers' Association, predicts serious trouble'on the Glebe-Wardrell construction works in regard to the non-unionist question. He accuses the Department of giving preference to non-unionists and foreigners, and neglecting tho wages awards in order to break down the award rates. The men' are seeking another conferonce with the colliery proprietors with reference to the übolition of the afternoon shift. 'l'ho federal Prime Minister (Mr. A. Fisher) has been, suggested as chairman. , WHEAT LOANS . APPLICATIONS IN NEW SOUTH WALES The Solicitor-General (Hon. D. ,R. Hall) states that applications for wheat loans have been made to New South Wales by all the other States. Victoria's requirements are 100,000 bushels immediately and 200,000. The loan to Tasmania is 10,000 bushels monthly. The Government is considering the applications. BANK DIVIDEND INJUNCTION FAILS , ■ Melbourne, February 19. Acting on behalf of himself and other preference shareholders! of the Commercial Bank of Australia, George Moudell sought declarations and injunctions to restrain the bank from fulfilling its announced intention of paying ordinary shareholders a dividend of ten per cent, without first providing for the restoration of I6st preference capital. Judgment and costs were given for the defendant bank. . I EMIGRATION OF MALES .views of T"statistician. • , ■ London, February 18. Doctor Snow, lecturing before the. Royal Statistical Society, 6aid that no males .under the age of 45. in Great Britain were available for emigration. Half the women under- 45 could be spared, and their immigration was highly desirable for the development of tho Dominions.
WHEAT EXPORTS PROHIBITED N.S.W. BOARD'S DECISION. . • (Rec. February 19, 9.45 a.m.) Sydney, February 19. The 'Wlieat Board lias decided that no more wheat is to be exported from New. South. Wales to anywhere. ' This means that Victoria,... West Australia, and South Australia will have to purchaso from outsid© sources. • As regards flour; it is stated that applications from neighbouring States will be sympathetically dealt with. " It is understood they will bo allowed to obtain normal supplies at a stipulated price; presumably this also applies to New Zealand should the, Dominion still desire to obtain a supply, but in the abseitco-of definite information regarding the exact number of bushels ofwheat available, the Board is apparently not desirous of making -a definite statement regarding quantities and prices. Nothing has as yet been decided as to payment for wheat supplied to New Zealand.

The Government is negotiating for tlio purchase of a similar quantity of Canadian wheat.
