The architect and the medical superintendent will visit several hospitals in Australia .before the designs of the new building are prepared. The Minister of Public Health, in reply to the board's request for tho early payment of the subsidy of £18,000 on Mr. Cawthron's gift of £15,000, wrote that ho had informed Mr. Cawthro.'i that tho subsidy would bo - forthcoming on the payment of the money, but ho did not contemplate that tho board would reqliire tho wholo sum in ono payment. As a matter of fact, tho payment of so largo a sum could not he mado without tho concurrence of Cabinet. Tho Minister trusted that tho board would 'bo satisfied with the assurance that tho subsidy would he paid, and accept it in progress payments, as required. It was resolved that tho Minister ho informed that it is tho opinion of the hoard, and the wish of Mr. Cawthron, that the Government should adhere to its promiso and pay the subsidy to tho credit of the board without further delay, and, failing the ability of tho Government to pay tho subsidy at once, tho current rate of interest on the amount accruing should ho paid to tho board as from tho date of Ilr. Cawtliron's gift.
