WILLIAMS PARK.
FINANCE MEETING TO-DAY. Subscriptions are still coming in slowly for the fund for the purchase of Williams Park at Day's Bay, which has been acquired by the city. The latest amounts acknowledged are £5 os. from •Mr. C. H. Howard, and 10s. from "F.E.," Martinborough. These contributions bring the total amount represented by miscellaneous subscriptions up to £1245 9s. 6d., and the total fuld up to £10,995, or £3005 short of the amount of the purchase money, the amount guaranteed by the City Council. It is anticipated that soveral otlier subscriptions will be'!received from city firms_ and associations, who were considering the matter when it became ne•cessary for the City Council to guarantee the unsubscribed balance in order ■to save the estate intact from the auctioneer's hammer. ' ' When consulted respecting the' matter yesterday, his Worship tie Mayor' (Mr. J. P. Luke) stated that the'work of getting out the title to the land, acquired was now in hand. None of the larger amounts on the list havo yet been, paid in, but these would all bo available as soon as the legal business in connection with the transfer of the estate was ready, Mr. Luke has summoned a meeting of those interested in the financial arrangements to'take place in the Mayor's room at 4 o'clock this afternoon. ■ " .
