MISS SYLVIA ARRESTED,
By Telegraph—Press Asoociation-Copyriclit London, March 8. When proceeding to a demonstration in Trafalgar Square, Miss Sylvia Pankhurst was arrested for tho sixth timo under tho Cat-and-Mouso Act. Tho crowd, which included M;ss Pankhurst's East End bodyguard, was exasperated, and attempted to march to Downing Street, but the police frustrated this, and nino l wero arrested. (Rcc. March 9, 11.15 p.m.) London March 9. Tho Men's Lcaguo in connection with tho Women's Suffrage meeting which was organisod in Trafalgar Square, included a large East End contingent. Miss Sylvia Pankhurst travelled in an omnibus. Two detectives accompanied her, but she- was unaware of their presence. She was arrested when about to join tho meeting, which was not aware of her arrest until it was too lato. to interfere.
Inflammatory specohes were made, and the crowd demanded her release.
Miss Paterson, waving a flag, led tho East End bodyguard at tho double, but a force of mounted polico easily suppressed the disturbance. THEIR V/EARY VIGIL. SIEGE OF SIR EDWARD CARSON'S HOUSE. Six Ulster Suffragettes, provided with camp stools and rugs, are keeping a vigil on tho doorstop of Sir Edward Carson's house in Belgravia. Th'oy want an assuranco that Sir Edward will not accept a compromise in regard to Homo Rule which does not include votes for tho women of Ulster.
Sir Edward Carson refused them an interview, declaring that his supporters are- divided on tho sufFrago movement, and ho is unable to speak on their behalf.
The Homo Secretary (Mr. Reginald M'Kenna) has informed Mrs. Pankhurst that her petition has been presented to tho King, but lie is -unable to adviso His Majesty to receive a deputation.
Mrs. Panklmrst thereupon wrote to ■tho King, declaring that his BJinistei's; not being elected by women, wcro not responsible to tho latter, and were not entitled to interpose, adding: "In.porsuance of- a constitutional right, I will personally present tho petition with the other representatives of the Women's Social and Political League." The deputation will proceed to Buckingham Palace on a dato to bb fixed, iind claim an audience. It is understood that the date will be after Easter, at the height of the London season. Suffragettes burned four wheat ricks at Bath. • .
