A firo at Saint Louis practically destroyed tho whole- of a city block. .Though, every availablo fireman was on tho scono shortly after, tho tiro got beyond control, and the building in which the outbreak originated became a seething mass of flames. i'ho roof Oared in, carrying down several floors. Only twenty out of 135 people who had rooms in the building have been ac'counted for. The bodies of seven people who jumped from tho fourth floor wero found in tho street. It is believed that over a hundred people have perished.
