Mr. Doylo escaped injury, tho horse was badly bruised, and the gig smashed. Any surplus over ordinary expenses will be donated to St. John's Ambulance Societj.

A representative of the Defence Department visited Patea on Tuesday for tho purpose of inspecting a sito for tho new Drill Hall for the local Territorials. It has not yet been decided whether a new building is to be erected or an. existing building acquired, but it is agreed that the present hall is totally inadequate'. The Patea Farmers' Co-operative Freezing Company have received a highly satisfactory report with regard to their recent shipment of beef' per s.s. Nairnshire, the buyer of the lino stating that it is the best beef of tho class yet shipped. At a full parade of the C Company of tho XI Taranaki Rifles, Colour-Sergeant Carey was presented with the long-service medal, in recognition of twelve years' unbroken service as a volunteer. The presentation was made by Captain Lampen, who is shortly leaving Patea for Nelson.
