TIIEATIiE IiOYAL. An excellent programme is being stnged. at the Theatre Jioyal this week. The Jlangeans, from America, are at the top of the bill. As gymnasts they would be hard lo better, particularly in tumbling and balancing. Canio and l-'rancis, two Continental athletes, also provide an attractive, turn. The Crimson Ramblers introduce several new items wliicli' .seem lo be popular with the audience. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. No bigger crowd has witnessed a picture performance ill llis Majesty's Theatre tiian tho crowd wliicli tilled the house last night. Tho attraction is "Les Miserable*," an adaptation of Victor Hugo's famous novel. Some years ago popular vote in one of th? English magazines characterised "Les Miserables" the greatest novel ever written, and popular vote, as evidenced by the at His Majesty's, now plumps for the picture as the best, ever seen in this city. The first series will be shown I'or a few more nights, but will have to give way at the end of the week to make room for.the remainder of the story.
KING'S THEATRE. "Heart of a Pierrot" is the film used a? the drawing card at the King's Theatre this week. It is a play that thrills, -and the principal role is well acted by Miss Asta Noilsen. 'Supplementary items 111eliule "Beau Bnimniel' and-"Tho Thunderlxdt." The programme is thrown 011 the screen to tlie accompaniment of excellent orchestral music. THE EMPRESS THEATRE. At the head of to-day's new programme of .the Empress TliFatre continuous pictures will appear the A. 11. "feature drama, "If We Only Know. scribd as a delightful story of a little child, who strays away from her nursegirl, but after many adventurous experienced safely liome. An exciting modern drama, "Polly and the Jewel Thieves," is another important film, saul to contain a captivating plot. The supporting numbers will include • Hunters of the Air" (a bird 6tory), 'The Bath Chair" (A.K. drama), and "Suspicious Henry" (Vita, comedy, with John Bunny in the leading role).
THE ROYAL CHORAL SOCIETY. All advertisement appears in to-day's issue notifying members of the Royal Choral Society that t.lio weekly practico will .bo held in St. Mark's Schoolroom, Sussex Square, to-morrow evening at 8 o'clock. "The Creation" will be performed in the Town Hall 011 August 1, and as this will be Mr. Hcllemaim s first appearance in AVellingtou as a conductor, much interest attaches to the i>erformnnce. The membership of. the society has been greatly strengthened since Mr. Hellema 1111 took control, and' jat this and tho Elijah performance (August 12) a chorus and orchestra of 310 will 'take .part. Madame Mary Conly, the distinguished oratorio soprano, has been specially enga"ed bv tlvo society for both works, and will ma'ko her debnt before a New Zealand audience at "The Creation.
■ • LOWER HITTT RINK. Skating in the Hutt Valley isjiecoming a very popular pastime, this being proved by the numbers that patronise the rink in the afternoon and evenings. J-o-niglit there will be special interest ill the ladies half-mile handicap, oppn to all comers, for which al prize is to be awarded. On Saturday night yiere will be a men s one mile open handicap for all covers, fot which a silver cup lias been given by the proprietor of the Kilbirme Rink. VIOLIN CONCERT. This evening Mr. 'H. Peicival Clarke and his violin pupils will give their annual concert in the Kiosk Concert Hall. Oriental Bay, when no fewer than SO of Mr. Clarke j! pupils will be heard in Danelar's concerted works arranged by H. P. Clarke for 30 violins.. This will be played by pupils from the ages of G.| years up to adults. A generous programme is tendered and is expected to bo interesting. There will be numerous solos, including difficult works, played by Misses J). Kirssell, M. Caseby, and G. Richardson. Tho two little winners of the last New Zealand Competitions (A. Brien and Ridler) will be -hoard in concerted music. The concert is given under the patronage of their Excellencies Lord and Lady Liverpool.
lIAMILTON-PLIMMER SEASON.' iTho Uamilton-Plintnier Dramatic Company, which will inaugurate a nine nights' reason, at the Opera House on Thursday next, July 3, will open its season here with a representation of Victor Widnell's new London swcpss, "A'Woman of'lmpulse," a society comedy-drama type of play, with a big English and American reputation. The success recently achieved liy this company with "A Wonian of Impulse" in Sydney and Melbourne demon-, strates its adaptability to Australasian audiences. The HainiltonJPlimmer Company as at present constituted must bo ret garded as a very fine stock company. Its personnel includes Jl'rs. Robert Brough, Miss Beatrice Day, Messrs. 11. R. Roberts, Harry Plimmer, Sydney Stilling, Winter Hall,"and Arthur Styan. In. "A Woman of Impulse," some gorgeous gowns will bo worn by the ladies in th? cast, and the scensry and staging generally will lie elaborate and adequate. On Monday, July 7, and two following nights, "Dr. Wakes Patient" will be staged. The repertoire for the seasoni also comprises "The Sccond Mrs. TanqiMray" and "A Message from Mars." The'box plans for the first G nights will open at the Dresden on Monday morning next at 9 o'clock.
