POTATO DIGGING.
A TRIBUTE TO THE MACHINE.' "I would urge every growcrof ten acres or rnoro to get a potato-digging machine, for in a patch ot 15 : acres the machine pays for itself." Such is tho recommendation of a potato-grower who has had considerable practical experience of tho digging-machines—Mr. H. E. M'Gowan, of Willowbridge, South Canterbury. The rnoro up-to-date potato-growers about Willowbridge, says Mr. M'Gowan, now havo their digging machines, and, in fact, any grower of 10 to 12 acres is considered (juite behind tho times -unless he lifts his crop with, the machine. With tho machine, digging is a mere dotail, and, according to Mr. M'Gowan, it considerably reduces the cost of raising the crop-pin fact, to about one-half tho cost of digging with the fork. In addition, the ground is moro thoroughly cultivated, and tho weeds are well shaken out and left on tho top of the ground, ready for raking up and burning.
