THE NEW GOVERNOR.
PLANS FOB HIS RECEPTION. Tho news available as to tho arrival' of tho now Governor, the Eavl of Liverpool, is still somewhat indefinite, but it is at least certain that his Excellency will arrivo at Auckland in the Malwa to-mor-row week (December 18). He will, it is expected, bo welcomed there by a representative of the Government, probably the Prime Minister, and tho citizens are equally certain to mako somo demonstration of welcomo also. Lord Liverpool will then be brought down to Wellington by a special train, timed to arrive here tho following morning at aomo convenient hour, and tho ceremony of swearing him in as Governor-will bo gone through at once.
Tho ceremony is a very short and simple, one. Tho clerk of tho Executive Council, Mr. J. F. Andrews, will read tho Governor's commission, and tho oath will bo administered to his Excellency by tho Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout. Tho ceremony will take place in front of. tho Government Buildings, where a staging will be erected to accommodate about 700 people, who will receive invitations from the Government. These will include representatives from local bodies and others holding public or semi-public positions who are usually invited to such function!).' A Press Association cablegram states. that tho Earl of Liverpool, Govornordesignate of Now Zealand, and the Countess of Liverpool, arrived -at Melbourne y?ster,day as passengers by the P. and 0; steamer Malwa.
Qaptain Eastwood, A.D.C. to Lord; Liverpool, is also among the Malta's passengers.
