MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THE POLICE SIDE. (Before Mr. W. G. Eiddoll, S.M.) FIREMEN AND THEIR ORDERS. Two firemen belonging to tho steamer Kin, Ora, James M'Gnrrity and Peter Alfred Ramsay, were charged jointly with refusing to obey the orders of tho captain of tho vessel 011 October 15 and IG, whilst the vessel was travelling from Auckland to Wellington. Both wero sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Ramsay was also charged with assaulting tho chief officer of the Kin Ora on October 17, and, for that oitence, was fined IDs., in default seven days' imprisonment, THE BY-LAWS. Vincent O'Shea was fined 10s., with 17s. costs, for not driving a cat> as near to the left-hand side of tho street as possible. Tho date given in the charge was September 10. Richard Welsby, cabdriver, was fined 10s., and costs 135., for not renewing his license on its expiry. Tor allowing his horse to wander nt large, William .1. Fitzgerald was fined 55., with 13s. costs. Cases relating to unregistered dngs wero dealt with :is follows:—Duncan Al'lnnes, costs 75.; Hiram Dunfood, costs 75.; Dennis ll'Goufle, costs 75,; Edward Young, 55., and costs Js.

OLD MAN AND HIS STOCK. John Hamilton, a man of ovor 80 years of age, was convicted and discharged for keoping stock in Rich a condition that they had beeomo offensive. STORING TURPENTINE. Standidgo and Co. wero ordered to pay Court costs, 75., for storing turpentine on their premises in Moleswoith Streot without first having obtained a license. INSOBRIETY AND OTnER CASES. The following cases of insobriety were dealt with Anna Laura Deightoii was fined -10s. with tho option of going to gaol for seven days. A prohibition order was also issued against her. Henry Irwin and Rose Eraser ivere each fined 10s. for a similnr offence, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Frank Roberts was fined 205., in default seven days' imprisonment. A prohibition order 'was issued against Roberts. John Mansfield was fined 405., in default 11 days' imprisonment. A large number of eases of Territorials who failed to attend compulsory-parades were dealt with. In all there were about 90 charges against nearly as many youths, but a largo numl>er of these were withdrawn. • Tho following were ordered to pay Court costs, 7s.J. A. I'ynn, A. Taylor, A. D. Forsyth, J. Thomas O'Brien, Charles U. Tucker fined 10s. on two charges), M. J. Bryaait, H. Ti. Ross (also fined 55.), E. H. Sayes. Stanley John Friis (also fined 55.),_ J. 51. 1 aul (on three charges), S. W. Constable (two chargcs), Fred Bradlev (three charges), Laurence W. Barber, D. O'Carrol], L. H. Wesley, W. J. Balsliam (also fined 55.), 11. W" Barden, 11. H. Ahearn, Henry Marshall, Fred Williams Russell (also fined 55.), Victor Harold Hoare (three charges), Arthur Sievers (two charges), E. W. Wintered, Herbert Terence Kee, .Tames Hi Nelson (two charges), and Alexander Newman.

CIVIL ACTIONS,

(Before Dr. M'Arthur, S.M.) PLASTERING AT THE THEATRE. At tho Magistrate's Court, before Dr. M'Artlmr, yesterday, Olios. Thomas Emeny, plasterer, claimed front Henry E. Manning, contractor, the sum of .£7B 10s., being f £!l As. balance due on a subcontract for plastering at Shortt's Picture Theatre, and .£37 Is. for certain extras which were not included in the contract. Thero was no dispute as to the amount of the main contract, but the extras were disputed and defendants lodged a counterclaim for ,£3O, amount of penalties paid by defendant to liis principals and which defendant claimcd were really incurred through delay on the part of plaintiff in carrying out his. portion of the work. Jtr. D. Jackson appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. A. \V. Blair for defendant. His Worship adjourned the case for" further hearing until Wednesday morning next.
