PETITION FOR A FLIT ROUTE,
A petition was presented to the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon by Mr. W. C. Buchanan, member fov Wnirnrapa, concerning tho railway over tlie Rimutaka incline. The signatories to Iho petition were the members of tbo Feathorston Town Board, and their prayer was that tli* . Government should deviate thi> present" Rimutaka railway by tunnelling through from Wnimii-o-maln to the iyes-
tern lake at Wairoiigamni.. The petitioners believed that since tho last surveynot at all an unfavourable one—the sMtlcrs in'the Wainui-o-mata valley hail discovered a better nnd cheaper line of communication, and further, that the cost of tunnelling had of later years been very greatly reduced.
