EXCITEMENT IN NOUMEA.
JEALOUS MAN LOSES HIS HEAD. By TelceraDh-Press Asßociation-OoDirieht Sydney, September i. The steamer Pacifique, which has arrived, from Noumea, reports a'sensational occurrence on August 18. A discharged convict, named Franceschi, aged 68 years, being jealous of his wife, who was 45 years younger than he, quarrelled with her and forbade her to visit her family. He struck her, and threatened her life, and she fled, Franceschi pursuing her and firing a rifle at her. He then barricaded' himself in his house. '
Police and military arrived, and a siege ensued. There was continuous firing on both sides. A soldier who had climbed on to the roof was shot dead.
Finally, the tube of a fumigating pump was introduced under (he door, and Franceschi, unable to breathe, opened the door. A fusillade- began; and Franceschi was ehot in eight places, but continued shooting. Ho was captured and removed to the hospital, where he died shortly after.
