The breach between the Liberals and the Labour party is widening in connection with the contest for the Midlothian seat in the House of Commons, a vacancy for which was caused by the elevation to the Peerage of the Master of Elibank. Mr. J. Ramsay MacDohald, leader of the Labour party, has, urged the voters not to listen to' the Liberal agents. Mr. R. L. Outhwaite, Liberal member for Barnard Castle, who,is supporting Mr. Alexander Shaw, the Liberal candidate, lias angered many Liberals by advocating the taxing out of landlords, with special reference to the Duke of Bucclcuch, whoso ancestors he accused of robbing the people and tho Church of 4G0.000 acres of land.
