On Saturday Mr. Woljst.T, tins vcliriue town clerk cf Potono, was presented with a travelling-rug by the Potono. municipal staff, /the Mayor (Mr. .1. W. M'Ewan), in making tlio presentation, eulogised Mr. Webster's work during his term of office. These, remarks r woro endorsed by Mr. A. Cowio and Mr. \Y. B. Gough, who spoke of the .pleasant companionship which existed between Hr. Webster and the municipal staff, and wished him every success in his new position.

Mr. Borneo Gardiner, the gifted whistler, who has entertained many Wellington audiences during the past three years, is to leave Wellington on Friday week for Sydney, whore lie is to appear with the Kickards Vaudeville Company. The recent complimentary concert tendered, tc •Mr. Gardiner in the Town Hall will yield a not sum of about .CllO for tho bencliciare.
.Jfr. Edmund Mitchell,'a well-known journalist and noroli&l in America, is tu arrive in 'Wellington from Kan Francisco mid tho South Sea, Islands about tho middlo of next month. Mr. Mitchell, who is looking for fresh colour for his works of fiction, intends to put in a little limo at Tahiti and liarotongn, and then come on to New Zealand. According to "Who's Who in America," Mr. Mitchell is a much-travelled man. Ho has (previously visited New Zealand and Australia, and lias also a first-hand knowledge of the Canary Islands, Egypt, India, Ceylon; Canada, and his own big country, lie did special corrcs|Miiding work at tho International Exhibitions in Chicago (1893), Antwerp (1001), Paris (WOO), and St. Louis (1901), and it was at tho latter city ho became interested in New Zealand through tho Dominion Commissioner (Mr. 1. E. Bonne). His novels (all published in London) aro "The Temple of Death," "Jowards the Eternal Snows," "Chickabiddy Stories," "Plotters of Paris," "The Star Hush," "Only a Nigger," "Tho Belports of Culbcn," "The Despoilcrs," and "in Desert -Keeping." A comedy of Mr. Mitchell's, entitled "The Telephone," has been produced in London.
Mr. Joseph Edward Nathan, of Pcmnridgo Gardens, and Gracedinreh Street chairman of Messrs. Joseph Nnthnu and to., Limited, one of tho leading linns in the New Zealand trade, left 4100,085 gross and J;99,91G net.
