LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

TE ARO RAILWAY. . Sir,—ln his letter published in your issue, of to-day, Mr. Mabin Gays: "Mr. Jlunl is wrong in assuming I referred lo his company at tho Chnmlior of Commerce meeting." J. did not assume anything. 1 read it in your report of the meeting, which states: "Let it loso Grainger .Street, and even, the Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association, rather than be throttled with a railway round the neck." Would it not have been fairer on Mr. Mabin's part to have questioned the accuracy of your report, rather than stato "I was wrong in assuming, etc."? Ho now states Ins reference was to tho Farmers' Union <vml all those bodies represented on the recent deputation, which, in addition to the I'.U., wore the Te Aro Railway League, tour suburban Ratepayers' Associations, the Citizens' League, and 7500 petitioners, with the wishes of about 35,000 people behind them. All these Mr. Mabin would brush on one sido as insignificant ns compared, with his own views on this railway proposal. He goes on to say ho is not concerned at the moment in replying to our arguments. Why delay? Tho attitude oi the C. of C. lias aroused considerable curiosity, which should 1m appeased. The noise question, for -instance, is one we should like to have a dissertation on. A "'rend of mine who lives on the corner of Tinakori Road, where the trains are continually screeching and grinding round tho curves, told me ho was anxiously waiting for some points from the Chamber on this question, as ho intended to inaugurate a campaign against tho trains running round corners, and thus causing discomfort to residents. I don't admire his chances, but nt tho samo time is this not a parallel case to the noise complaint oi tho To Aro railway?—l am. etc., ... ... , -A LEIGH HUNT. Wellington, August 14, 1912.
