Biss urg ills that railway tickets should be mad< available for sale at other places than a' stations, so as to prevent the necessit; for persons having to 'crowd round ,th< booking office just before tlie train leaves "There is another .reason," wrote 'Mr Biss, "why tickets should be sold in tin town, namely, (ho desirability of hand ing tickets to servants when you are send ing them into the country, instead o giving them the cash. Every day of tin week firms have to send their servant into the country, hands are engaged fo: farm work,' domestic servants for tin house, whose railway fares have to be pre paid. If you Rive them' the cash there ii a certain risk of them spending tin money. To guard against this, risk peoph have to go down to the station to taki out the tickets and hand them over, a the train, which is veTy inconvenient especially when servants are being en gaged by lady friends of the employers It is also very inconvenient if you liav luggage and children to look after. t< have to crowd round the ticket office a a busy time instead of being able t< <ret your ticket at your leisure in town I cannot for the life of mo see why i railway ticket should not be procurabl in town the same as a steamer ticket What would the railway authorities thin if the Union Company insisted upon everj bedv going down'to the . steamer to tre their tickets ten minutes before •th steamer sailed? Throughout Australi railway tickets can be purchased day 'ahead'nt an office in the principal cife Why shouldn't this method be adopted i: New Zealand?" It was decided that the Minister fo Railways be written to asking him t adopt the above proposition.
