TRAMWAY FINANCE.

1 A MONTH'S STATISTICS. At the fortnightly meeting of the City Tfniipyay6 Committee, the Board of Mnn- ' ngement submitted a return showing that lor tho four weeks ended July 21 last tho revenue was ,410,918, an incroa«> of .4363 on tho figures for the corresponding period of last year. The working' expenses, .£7960, showed (in increase of ,£426; and tha capital charges, .42991, an increase ot 485. The total espouses, ,410,937, showed an increase of ,£sll, and tho credit balance ofis; a decrease of .4149 on tho corresponding period of last year. "Included jn the .revenue this year," states the report, "is a,u amount of =£191 for advertising on cars, covering the two quarters in tho first half of tho financial year. The principal items showing increase in working expenses for the four weeks are us follow:—Wapes (motorinen nhd conductors), ill 70; repairs and maintenance (permanent way), .4233; repairs and maintenance (cars), .4120; power house (fuel), „EI3G. Several other items show docreases' in expenditure. "For the 16 weeks, April I—July 21, the gross revenue ho<s increased by «£!K)9, of which .£513 was obtained from the Wadestown section, and £191 from fldvor-, tising on cars, both of which are new sources of revemio us compared with last year. The working expenses have increased by .£11(18. "The passengers carried for the 10 wccki referred to totalled 7,217.919, or 86,040 moro than last year. The Wadestown section apcopnts fov 81,752, of this increase, leaving an actual increase ■on tho city lines of only 4308 passengers, The total revenue per car mile- oyer the whole system for Ihe 10 weeks averaged 14.42 d., n decrease of ,26d. per car milo as compared ' with last year. The working expenses per ear mile averaged 10.9 d., and the capital charges 3.95:1., making a total of 14.85 d. per ear mile,-or ,43d. in excess of the revojuie.
