FEDERAL BUDGET.
BIG VOTE FOR TRANS-CONTINENTAL HALLWAY. By TcleEraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, August 2. Mr. Fisher announced in his Budget speech that a Bill would bo introduced granting old age pensions to those at present disqualified by their ownership of a house. He foreshadowed the reappointment of the Inter-State Commission. Mr. Fisher added that ho was hopeful that General Botha would before long visit Australia. Tho Canadian Minister of Trade was also coming to discuss the reciprocity question. It is proposed to spend .£1,000,000 on tho trans-Continental railway during the coming year.
Mr. Deakin, Leader of the Opposition, congratulated Mr. Fisher on his speech, and expressed satisfaction at the appointment of the inter-State Commission. The debate was adjourned. DEVELOPMENT OF PAPUA. {Rec. August 2, 11.45 p.m.) Melbourne, August 2. Provision is made in the Federal Budget for the establishment of six new stations in Papua, and to extend the actual control over the whole of the territory. The House has passed a two months' Supply Bill.
