In an interview, he indicated that his one main undertaking as High Commissioner would bo to negotiate with Continental countries in the hope of securing a market for New Zealand produce, particularly meat. He thought the prospect of obtaining, the relaxation of Trench protection in favour of New Zealand mutton was hopeful. Germany, too, might amend her Customs tariff in a similar direction. He intended to devote himself energetically to that work, to which he had given some years ol' close study.
