DENSE FOG IN PEGASUS BAY,

A- denso fog in Pegasus Bay delayed the ferry steanter Maori for about an hour tins morning. .The. vessel left Wellington at 8 p.m. on Friday with, a strong Bouther)y wind against her, but, when she was well down the coast, the wind died awav to a calm, and, at 3.30 a.m. on Saturday, when the steamer was passing Cheviot, she ran into "a very thick fog, and had to proceed at reduced speed across Pegasus Bay. No sign of tho land could be seen as the steamer neared Lyttolton Heads, but tho reports of the detonating fog signals at Godley Head wore heard plainly. The Maori made her way up Lyttclion Harbour in tho dense fog, the first land being sighted after passing Gollan's Bay, and she arrived in port tit 8 o'clock. Sho' did not connect with the first" cxprc«9 from Dimedin, but, considering , the exceptionally thick fog, Captain Aldwell did very well in getting into port so early. Tho fog was fho first bad one which has been experienced this'winter. It commenced (o clear in the outer harbour shortly after the arrival of tho ferry steamer.
