HEMP AND TOW GRADING.
DECREASE TOR TITK TWELVE MONTHS. The total number of hales of hemp graded at the ports of Ihe Dominion during May was (1931, as <-oiupaml with 7777 for the corresponding month of Inst year, an increase of 2151 bales. Fur the VI months miding Aluy 31; 11112, (ho number, of bales graded was %,W, n? compared with 101,253 for the previous twelve months, the decrease being 10,721 bales. During the month 2811 bales of tow were dealt with, as compared with 227fi for the corresponding mouth of last year, an incrense of 53R bales. The hemp totals were as under:—Anekland, 910; Napier, 118; Foxton, JI17; Weilington, 3854;..Vic-ton, 1)2; Dunedin, 23(i; Bluff, 295. Of the Wellington gratlings 54 were fine, 21M3 good fair, lllti fair, 2!) common. and 12 rejectwl. ]'or Foxton, the grading was: Fine, S: good fair, 141 C; fair, 2887; common, GC; rejected, 7. The tow figures were: Auckland, 375; Knpier, C 5; Foxton; 934; Wellington, 1282; Vieton, 19; Dmicdin, 3: Bluff, 133. The Wellington and Foxton gradings were ns follow, tho Wellington figures Iwing given in parentheses:—First grade, 2CG (671); second grade, G52 (5G1); third grade, 10 (41); condemned, 0 (9). A total of 117 .sb'inner slips were, passed for shipment, at Foxton, none brim? condemned. At Wellington ICO were passed for shipment and 12 condemned.
