A QUIET WEEK,
Another quiet week has to be recorded at tho Allen and Blair Street markets. A few apples and pears aro coming forward. .Shippers apparently havo not ap-' preciated the low prices which have beer, ( ruling-for some time. past. A few small consignments of .pears which arrived from Christchurch vesterday sold at fairly good prices, cooking sorts realising 55., and dessert 7s.'to 9s,' Choice cooking, apples are selling at 4s. to is. Cd. and dessert sorts of the best descriptions at ss. to Vs., other sorts bring 4s. to 4s. 9d. There was practically no fruit on Wednesday's. Sydney steamer, yesterdays Melbourne steamer brought only- 20 cases of lemons, grown at Mildura. I hey wore a verv small sample; but as the market is almost bare they brought from 13s. Gd. upwards. - '\ • ' ''' ' ■ . ■■■ Local:grapcs continue to come forward in fair-quantities, prices ranging irom 9d. to Is: per lb. Tomatoes are. practically finished for the season. Present value's for first-grade, otfenngs are Is. to IK ' Cape -gooseberries - realise . 4-5(1. to sd. lb. Quince's from Motuekn art- worth 4s. per-bushel case. Outdoor-grown -cucumbers -nre in good demand. Packed in banana cases they realise Us. to lis. pel case. Mushrooms meet with a good sale at 7s. to 12*. per banana case. Cabbages nre still iii-heavy supply aiul.values rang* from Is. to 2s. per sack. Choice -white cauliflowers lire scarce and best samples bring from fl's. to 13s. per sack. Other sorts bring 7s. to Bs.'Gd. Beetroot is soiling at 3s. to 4s. per- sack and carrots at 3*. to 'ss. T'here is a good sale for white celery at 2s. to 3s. per dozen head. The season for I'l-onch'.beans is almost over, present values being vs. Gd. to 10s. per half sack. Green peas are in good demand at 10s. to 14s. per half sack. Horse radish is selling at 3s. per lb. Lettuce ate plentiful'at Is. Gd. to 2s. per case. Best Up-to-Date potatoes meet with a ready sale at fls. to 7.5. per cwt., but there are verv few available, tho bulk of the southern supplies being badly diseased. Other prices arc: Marrows. 2s„ 3s. btl. sack; onions, 9s. to 10s. sack; beetroot, 3s. to 45.; pumpkins, 3s. to Gs.; parsnips, 4s. to ss.'; pio melons,-4s. Gd. to ss. Gd.; swedes, 2s. to 2s. Gd. cwt.; white turnips, 2s. to 3s. sack;.pickling onions, 9s. to 10s. per cwt. (good sale); walnnts, sd. to 6d. lb.; spinnnch in good request at 2s. Cd. to 3s. Gd. case; coconuts, 9s. to 10s. sack; peanuts. 20s. to 21s. per gunny; honey, in bnlk, Sid. to 4Jd. lb. There is no demand for garlick. Violets are coming forward freely and aro worth Is. to Is. Gd per dozen hunches. Fresh eggs aro soiling at Is. ■ lOd. to 2s. per dozen, and preserved eggs at Is. 3d. per dozen. Poultry are hard to quit and prices remain unchanged.
