IN DEFENCE
MORMONS IN WELLINGTON. During tho past week a picture, entitled "A Victim of the Mormons" has been exhibited at the King's Theatre It depicts a girl being hired from her home and parents by a Mormon leader, who desires to take" tho girl to Utah against tho wishes of her people, and subsequently against the desire of the girl bersclf. The exhibition of the picture has aroused the indignation of a small Mormon community in Wellington, whose- presence! in the city was not hitherto generally known. To refute the arguments of the picture two male members of the sect have been distributing circulars at tho theatre door, setting cut that "the author was .moved entirely by n desire to poison the minds of the people, and thereby make money." Ths circular continues:—, "There is less drunkenness, less immorality, less poverty, and fewer criminals among the Mormon people than any like number of people anywhere. They aro not enticing, Dor never havo enticed, any girl, woman, or man to do any wrong thing. They would not misrepresent; their enemies, they believe in doing good to nil. There are many beautiful, accomplished girls in Utah, without husbands. Wo invito investigation, and 1 delight to answer questions from seekers after truth. All aro cordially invited to attend out meetings, and there is no contribution bos." The circular concludes by the announcement that meetings are held at a stated address in Newtown each Sunday evening, and is signed by M. M. Johnson., ' Conference President, 12 Gleucoe Street, Newtown.
