TRINITY COLLEGE.

PRESENTATION* OF PRIZES. The animal presentation of medals, prizes, nnd certificates won by local candidates at the hist examinations conducted here under the auspices of Trinity College of Music, London, was held in the, Sydney Street Schoolroom last night. 'Inhere was a large audience in the hall, composed very largely of candidates ,<nu their parents and brothers and sisters. Mr. A. L. Herdinan presented the medals, and the very large mimbe rof certificates to bo presented to candidate. Jn this ceremony the chairman was assisted by Mr. Leon Cohen, local representative foi Trinity College. The chairman thanked Mr. Cohen foi having done him the honour of asking him to present the prizes, a duly which would give him very great pleasure. Forty years aco Trinity College had conic into exisVtence in London, and since then it had made rapid strides. During thai. 40 years the executive of the -institution had" examined in various parts of the world 500,000 candidates, and had also distributed annually the sum of .£I2OO in prizes and scholarships. And when the Into ICinj; Edward VII was crowned Trinity College gave out of its accumulated funds the sum. of .KiOOO to the London University to establish a Chair of Music. So that the institution in its comparatively short life of 10 years hail rendered valuable service to the musical world. Ho congratulated the young ladies aiid gentlemen who had won the prizes and certificates presented by the college. They ought to feel proiid to have secured those honours, for Trinity College had branches all over the work), and the honours it conferred were recognised iu all countries as real standards of merit He hoped (he successful candidates, hnvin? achieved a measure of triumph, would not stay their hands, but would endeavour still furthci to cultivate the art of music. Mr. Herdman concluded by commendim; the art o". music as one worthy of study, and an accoiiinlishment to be highly priised.

A short concert programme was given by the medallists in. the prize list. The performers wero Miss Ivy Churchill (first senior medallist}. Mis« Eileen Corby (second senior medallist}, Miss Marjorie Shepherd /fir«t intermediate medallist), Miss May M'lvinlcy (second intermediate medallist}, and Miss Gladys Muneravin fjunioi medallist). Tho only medallist who was not present, and therefore not a contributor to the programme, was Miss Mabel Waters, who takes the Anonymous Donors' Medal for singing, in the senior division.

After the ceremony and the entertainment, Mr. Herdman was accorded a voteof thanks for presiding. i
