CITY MEAT SUPPLY.

♦ AN ANNUAL REPORT. OPERATIONS FOR THE THAU. The manager of the municipal abattoir reported to the City Abattoirs Committee yesterday on operations at the abattoirs during March and during the year which ended on March 31. The stock slaughtered during March totalled 77 cows, 182 bullocks, 7 bull-, 1201 sheep, 890 lamb-, 7U calve-, and 21 pig.-. Out of this number, 5 cows, l!l bullock-', 31 sheep, t lamb, :j calve-, and J pig wciv condemned as unlit for human consumption.

The ices collected on stock .-lauglitered at the abattoir during the month ninoiuiled to .£1:17 OS. 8(1., a decrease of .til S-. ■Id. on la-f mouth. The lees collected on slock slaughtered at meat export works and sold within the abattoir aiva amounted to .£135 18s. Bd., an increase of .£27 Is. !ld. on tlie previous month. The amount due on the sale of offal ami runners was „£llß, a decrease of .£ls Is. Id. for .March. The amount received for cleaning tripe was .£2-1 Ills. Sid., an increase of Vs. on last month.

The total amount for the month was .£lls 19s. id. As compared with the sumo month of last year there was an increase of slaughtering' of 50 sheep, 21 calves, 20 pigs, and a decrease of 18 cattle and 111! .lambs. The stock slaughtered for the omont.'i was of prime quality, with the exception of 9 head of cattle, which were slaughtered for boning purposes. The manager submitted a return of the number of stock slaughtered and condoned, fees received from meat export companies, amounts received for offal and runners, and abattoir fees fcr the vears ending March, 1911, and March. 1912, thereby showing the increases made during the last year. For the year■ ending March, 1911, the following number of -lock wa- slaughtered at the abattoir:—KiSO cattle, 31,001 sheep, 8110 lambs, 115 calves, 11 pigs, out. of which were condemned 103 cattle, 251 sheep, 3 lambs, fi calves, and 1 pig. The abattoir ffes collected amounted to .£l2ll 19s. Bd., and fees' from meat export companies .£2210 18s. 2d. The sale of offnl and runners realised .£IOB7 fis. 3d., making a total for the year of .£lslO Is. Id. During the year ending March, 1912, there were slaughtered at the abattoir 7501 cattle, 52,290 sheen, 9019 lambs, (id calves, and 120 pigs, out of which were condemned 337 cattle, 327 sheep, 12 lambs, 8 calves, and 8 pigs. Abattoir fees collected amounted to ;£I73G 17s. 7d., and fees received from meat export companies to .£1507 10s. 9d. The sale of offal and runners realised •£1155 Us. 3d. The cleaning of tripe realised from June. 1911. to March, 1912 (ten months'!, .£2lB 11s. (id., making a total for the year of X' 1979 os. 3d. The increase in stock for the year 1912 over 1911 was 2872 cattle, 17.591 sheen, 909 lambs, 82 pigs, and 210 calves. The increase in abattoir fees was .C 524 17s. lid. There was a decrease in fees from meat export companies of .£Ol3 Is. .1(1., and an increase from the sale of olYal and runners of .£3OB Bs. 2d. The total increase for the year was JCJCS 18s. 2d.
