"ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE."

AN AMENABLE yiNISTKY

(By Telegraph.-Special Correspondent.) Auckland, April 21.

The public of Auckland has discovered that a Ministry held in oflice by two broken pledges is very muciuiblo to reason, and ju-t now Auckland is getting at one fell swoop things it has bogged ami wayed for in vain for many yea re. AVe have only to ask now to receive, and deputation after deputation has emerged from the Ministerial rooms with pleased expressions. 'Suburban train si-rviocs, extra trains, the speeding up of tho Kaipara train, a double Main Trunk service, the removal of anomalies in fares tho provision of carriages On public works trains, and many other things have all been granted out of hand by the new Minister for flailwn.vs, and the Prime Minister and the Hon. G. W. Uussell have hud equally .open oars for deputations in the Waikalo. Auckland is mentally pinching itself, and asking, "Can such things be?" The Prime Minister has so progressed that he made the astounding statement tho other day that "It is the desire of the country to give the new Ministry a good trial. The country is tired of political turmoil, unci gladly welcomes a Ministry that will carry on tho work of tho country"—with morn to the sumo effect. As the new Ministry has not yet met either Parliament or the country,' it is difficult to know h?w Mr. Mackenzie arrived at his conclusions.

Mr. Mackenzie also indulged in some cheap sneers at Mr. Massey. but as this ei\d of tho island knows and appreciates Mr. Massey, and doss not know and doesn I appreciate, Mir. Mackenzie—the, remarks are taken at their true worth. Auckland is busy getting all it can out of the new Ministry, and laughing up its sleeve at the same time.
