TRAM UNION TO GO TO COURT.
STRIKE CHARGES. The Labour Department has received instructions from the Minister for Labour, (a whom the matter was referred, to go on with proceedings against the Tramways Union to recover penalties under the strike clauses of the Arbitration Act. As the working of a tramway is one of the industries for which special penalties are provided for a strike, unless U days notice has not been given, the fine to which tlie union is liable, is ,£501). ]t is not the intention of the Department to prosecute any individual parties, of whom there were at least 400. The individual penalty under the same clause is J123.
