AN ILL-FATED SPEECH.
AMUSING INCIDENT. . An amusing incident which occurred as his Excellency tho Governor was entering Parliament Houso may bo regarded by tho superstitious as an omen 6'f illluck for tho Ward Government. Just as the Governor had entered the sacred portals preceded .by his private secretary, the latter dropped the. "Spcech from the Throne" on the floor of tho vestibule. Notwithstanding the supposed weighty import of its contents, the Speech fluttered almost noiselessly to the floor, and tho private secretary, not observing the fall, continued to march on quite unconcernedly. His Excellency quickened his pace momentarily, to inform tho secretary of tho mishap, but Sir Joseph Ward, who was in tho procession himself, camo to the rescue, picked up tho ill-fated Speech, and restored it to tho safo custody of his Excellency's secretary.
