THE FRUIT MARKETS.

HEAVY SUPPLIES. During the past week peaches, plums, nectarines, and tomatoes have been in heavy supply, large shipments arriving daily from Auckland, Nelson, and Hawke's Bay, and values ruled low. The supplies of greengages, apricots, and raspberries are diminishing, and it is expected that in consequence prices will improve. Sydney fruit reached a bare market on Wednesday last, and high rates were obtained for all consignments of pears, pineapples, passion fruit, and water melons. Pears from Melbourne were landed yesterday in first-class condition and realised high prices. Messina lemons are scarce and command good rates. The market is well supplied with vegetable and on the whole payable rates are ruling. The potato market, in contrast to last week, is now being well supplied, in fact the arrivals are in excess of the demand. Eggs aro in short supply aud are lirm at Is. 3d. per dozen.
