A movement was recently instituted kero for the organisation of local govomment engineers, with a view to forming on institute for New Zealand, similar to (hat which already exists in Australia. Messrs. It, J. Dillon (engineer to the I'ahiatiia County Council), S. Jickell (Palmcrstnn North borough), Hoy Harding (Oroua County), F. G. Blake (Collingwood County), A. H. M. Wright (l'jitoft County), and Sydney A. K. Hair (Kaugitikoi County) forwarded a circular to eighty municipal and county council engineers, and received replies from 75 i'avourablo to the formation of an institute. Messrs. Jickell, Mair, Dillon, and Harding met hero yesterday to arrange for a meeting of ongiuecrs at Wellington on February 21 and 22 to form a New Zealand Institution of Local Government Engineers. Of Ihoso circularised, over 50 favoured Wellington as the place of mcot> ing. lon Auckland, and tho rest were divided between Christchurch ami Dunedin. Tho new institution, will establish examinations and issno certificates to engineers qualified for service on local bodies, prepare papers, and exchango views am! experiences upon matters such, views and experience upon mutters such as road-malcing, tramways, lighting, drainage, writer supply, etc. The p'romolei's consider that the interchange of ginecrs of the Dominion must prove of the greatest value to ratepayers and all concerned; It has not so iar been found possible to communicito with all the consulting engineers, and some local body engineers may have beon overlooked. It is desired flint all such wilt communicate with Mr. Mair at Hunte-rvillc at onco.
