ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE NEXT CARNIVAL. Mr. W. H. Alack presided at a meeting of the New Zealand Competitions Society, held in the office of Messrs. Gualtcr, Dykes and Co. last evening. It was reported bv the secretary that Mr. Harry "Hill, of Melbourne, who had been approached to act as judge of the elocutionary sections in the next competitions, could not make arrangements to act, and it was decided that the subcommitteo appointed to arrange (.ho programme be asked to submit two other names of possible jndues of those sections. Mr. Sidney Wolf, of Dimedin. judge of the musical sections, wrote submitting a programme of vocal and instrumental music for this year's competitions, hi writing ho stated that whilo not lowering the standard of the musio set for last year's com petitions he had endeavoured to make the items as popular as possible. The Rev Father Hickson and Mr. It. Plimmer were appointed a sub-commiltoe to scrutinise Ihe programme before it is finally approved by the committee. It was decided that the Finance Committee of the City Council be approached to renew the donation givov lo the m> ciely last year. The Finance Committee of the council is also being asked to receive a deputation on the subject. The Finance Committee of the society submitted a report on the matter of prices of admission, which fixed the price of a double season ticket (to admit to all performances except those given on monstrulion nights) tit -CI Us.
