MASTERTON NOTES.
« (From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, January 12. Tho annual sports gathering in connection with tho iiangdnlo Sports Club was held on Thursday. The weather was fine, and there was a large gathering of settlers from the surrounding districts. Mr. R. D. Morrison's Grey Dawn won the hunters' competition, tho first prizo for which was a'silver rose bowl. Tho points pri:w in Horse events went to Mr. J. O'Brien. An evening run in connection with the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club was held .yesterday. The 300 yards handicap was won by J. C. Grubb, and tho 1000 yards handicap bv M. Iggulden. A 7j yards race in connection with tho Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club was witnessed last evening by a large crowd of spectators. Tho race was swum in two heals, the final being won by G. Foreman, with J. "Winchester second. Tho monthly meeting of the Masterton District High School Committee was held last evening. 'JTie- treasurer reported a credit balaucc of vCGfi 17s. lid ■ Mr. G. 11. Perry, of Masterton, has been appointed judge of horse competitions and light horses at the Pahiatua Ehow.
