EXPERIMENTS WITH A NEW ■ APPARATUS. In view of tho recent developments in Wellington in connection with the checking of tramway tickets the following para, graph from a recent English paper will be of interest:— "Punch, brothers, punch with care. Punch in tho prcsonco of the passe&gair," wrote Mark Train many years ago, and to-day they aro singing it all over again in Paris. One of the omnibus companies in Paris has been testing a very small portable apparatus carried by tho conductor whicn punches ami delivers tickets as tho passengers pay their fare, The apparatus; stamps first and sccond-clasi tickets for the single scclion or the whole (Jlstanct't The tickets bear other indications, including dm route on which Iho ticket is used, the section ;tt which tho passenger entered the omnibus, tho hour and tho minute, the date, the number of the ticfcnt ami the number of Iho apparatus which delirered tho ticket. Counters give tho exact number and total price of (ho tickets delivered for the whole day, Tho construction of the apparatus is exrromely simple, and its functions can bo learned by Iho conductors in a few minutes.
