AUSTRALIA WINS. THE FIGURES OF THE MATCH. By Tclecraph—Press Association—Copjrtiriit' Sydney, December 21. The first test match of tho English, cricketers' tour was finished to-day. AiwIralia. won by 116 runs. Tho woaUvar. was fine and hot. When shimps were drawn last evening England had eight wickets down for 263 in tho second innings, and wanted 175 to win tho match. Thoro were only about 100 people present when Douglas, tho not-out man, and Barnes resumed the innings. Tbey faced tho bowling of Hordera and Cotter respectively. Barnes quickly brought up doublo figures for bimself, driving Cotter to the boundary. Douglas, however, facial the bowling for six overs without scoring before being bowled with ti big leg-break by Hordem. Strudwick scored a lucky i off Cotter by snicking him through tho slips, and followed it up a few balls later by splendidly cutting him to tie track. When the total was 201 Hoirlovn bowled Barnes. Hordern has informed the selectors that lie will be able to piny in the second test, but, owing to business engagements, not in the third and fourth. He may possibly play in tho fifth.
