COMPANIES' AGREEMENT FAILS. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright, Sydney, December 21. • Practically all tho shipping companies have decided to increaso their inter-Stuto freight rates by 5 per cent, but not the passenger rates. Tho result of inquiries made indicates that the arrangement hitherto existing between the companies is at an end, but it is not considered that a rates waris likely. The increase in freights is regarded as extremely moderate considering tho charges the companies have to meet, Melbourne,-December 21. Although tho shipping companies' arrangements have ended, it is believed Unit. amicable relations still exist, an.l that passenger tickets will remain interchangeable.
