HUTT AND PETONE NEWS. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
The annual meeting of the Pctone Ambulance Van Committee was held in the Municipal Buildings last evening. The Mayor (Mr. ~T. W. M'Ewan) presided. The balance-sheet disclosed receipts amounting to .£129 9s. Gel.; expenditure, UrlOS lis. 2d.; credit balance. J620 18s. Id. The report stated that tho van had be™ taken over from the builder on November 11. and. sine* then, had been, used by 63 patients—l 7 from Pelono and 16 from Lower Hutt. This fact exemplified the need of such a conveyance in the district. Owing to various ; alterations and repairs, the van had proved somewhat expensive, as regarded maintenance, but this expenditure (it. was hoped) would not lie recurrent. When the committee had been hard pressed for funds, aid* had been obtained, among those who assisted lieing the Oddfellows and Druids Lodges. Petono Council, Orchestral Society, Mascotte ana Palace. Picture Companies, and the Razoo Band. In moving tho adoption of the report the Mayor congratulated the committee on the state of the finances, and on the satisfactory state of the van. Officers were elected a« follow:—Committee. th« Mayor (Mr. ,1. W. M'Ewan). Messrs. Clark. Cox. Brocklebank, Steinmuller. Smart, and Mesdames Corner and Bennett; secretory, Mr. Gough; treasurer, Mrs. Bennett. Mr. Gough was voled a sum of ,Ci lis. for past' services.
