V PETONE COURT. The monthly sitting of the Petono Magistrate's Court was held yesterday. Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., presided, and there were aho on the bench Messrs. Mothes, Kicr, and AVakeham, Justices of the Peace. Albert Bush, for leaving a vehicle unattended in Jackson Street, iv.as convicted and ordered to pay costs of the action (75.). For allowing two horses to wander in Cuba Street, William Steven Jenkins was lined 10-., with costs 75., in default fortvoight hours' imprisonment. "The only way to deal with these people." commented tho magistrate, "is to make tho practice unprofitable." Hayman Max pleaded guilty to a charge of riding a bicycle along a footpath in Cuba Street. "Why do you ride on the path?" asked Dr. M'Arthur. "So many .'others do it," was the reply. Defendant was fined 55., .with.costs 7s. ■•••■• ■•■ ■ On the civil side, J. B. Cooper sued Mrs. A. Nicholls for ,£l2 is. 2d. lor rent, etc. As plaintiff did not put, in an appearance, nor was represented', judgment was entered.for defendant, JCI Is. costs being allowed. Judgment was entered by default in the case J. B. Cooper v. J. E. Tarkcr, claim for 155., with cpsts-os. At a. sitting of the Juvenile Court, a boy ased twelve years was charged with breaking and entering a dwelling at Taita. He was cautioned by Dr. M'Arthur and discharged. NO-LICENSE LEAGUE. The Hutt No-License League held a "social" at Petouo last evening. There was an excellent .attendance, and games and musical items were among the features. Supper was also provided by the ladies. VALEDICTORY. On Saturday evening about 150 officers imd men of. the Petone railway workshops gathered to say farewell to Mr. Alexander Allan, workshops manager- Mr. George Pearson, on behalf of thoso present, presented Mr. -Allan with a gold watch suitably inscribed, and referred to the lone connection which Mr. Allan had 'hid with the Department, and ,a.lso of the esteem and respect in which he was held by the men. Mr. Allan,• v:ho retires on superannuation at the end of the yenr, ■ will, with Mrs. Aliau, pay a prolonged visit to ticotland.
