OUR GROWING ZOO.
INTERESTING ADDITIONS TO THE COLLECTION. The City Council, (he keepers of the "Zoo," the Wellington Zoological Society, and the Rev. p. C. Bales, who has never tired in his efl'orts to make our "Zoo" worthy of the Dominion, have recently been working successfully to make the collection of animals in Newtown Park more and more interesting. Mr. Lan.'O'idge, who came back in the Mc.aiu yesterday, brought with him from Australia a handsame young leopard, which (ho Wellington Zoological Society presents to the city, a young Malayan 1-x'iir, two Ijcautiful ring-tailed lemurs, a bridled wallaby to bo a mate for the one in the park, a eoc-t to bo company for the on? on the pond which lias repeatedly built a nost, but never before hiul i> partner to share u home with him, ■ and a pair of Mad-jgasear tortoises. They were met at (lie '-oat by Ihe president of the Wellington Zoological Society and tho K-ev. D. C. Bates. A pair ot' led kangaroos are expected to arrive soon, and a rhca to be a mate for the female in the park may bo cxpectc'i. As Mr. Langridge was'able to arrango for satisfactory exchanges in several cases, ami the animals obtained are animals for which there is already accommodation provided in our "Zoo," it will be noticed then that numerous and important improvements arc being made at. no great cost to the city. Then, wbile Mr. Liingridgo was in Australia arranging for the additions mentioned, several increnses look place in (he "Zoo" here; one young tluir was horn, two young white swans were hatched, and six "paradise ducks camo forth—all valuable additions.
