HASTINGS.

The gale last week did a good deal of damage to local crops. Some were ready, for cutting, and the wind simply threshed the oals out awl then laid the, straw on tho ground. Orchards, too, wore, badly knocked about, .and. tho fruit yield reduced considerably. Hot weather'-has now set in, and tho x country is beginning to wear a somewhat parched appearance.
