PRICE ON WHITE MEN'S HEADS By Telegraph— Vtcas Association—Oopyrlehl Sydney, December 11. By tho Island steamer Mindini there arrived five Native prisoners en route to Fiji to stand their trial on a charge of attacking Mr. Austin's station in the Solomon Islands Mr. Austin,shot two of tho attackers dead.
Advices indicate that the lot of white men in the Solomons is precarious. A price is fcl on their heads by the chiefs of tho Niitivo cannibal tribes.
The trouble which recently resulted in ■ tho murder of Mr. Jones, rnato Of tho schoonor Ruby, and other outrages, is attributed to tho influence of Kanakas, who have returned from Australia, and who incitod in tho Natives a realisation of their power, The Natives at tho mission stations have also been taught that it is Un-Christian to fight, and the stations are thereforo practically unprotected, the missionaries all the time working ii\ danger of their lives.
The British warship Torch landed a party to suppress. unruly hill men. Tho party met with stout resistance. The encounter resulted in a number of Natives being killed.
