MR. NGATA'S WALK-OVER.
Tho official report' concerning the unopposed return of tho Hon. A. T Ngata for the Eastern Maori District was to tho effect that the only other nomination wew or Hori Pawa, which was informal. the 'Gisborne Times," however states that Tiki Paaka (Mr. Parker, Nn'dvo agent, of Wanganui) and Hori Pawa were nominated, but both- withdrew. The samo paper further savs:—
'"liki Paaka, it is understood, withdrew after .a conference wiih Mr. Ngata. the Native land policy of the Government was reviewed, and is said to havo formed the chief subject of cortention. However, the points raised wevo satisfactorily explained to Tiki Paa'a and ho withdrew from tho contest. "It is stated that thero wa; somo informality regarding Hori Paira's oualifications to stand. It seemii thr.t hit name appeared on the roll of u Eu/opetin electorate, and he was not a qualified elector for tho Eastern Maori (iistrict. This point, however, was not raised, and' the candidate withdrew for other reasons."
