PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(From Ocr Special CorreaiioiidenD Palmerston, December 5. At the monthly meeting of the Campbell Street School Committee last night, (lie headmaster (Mr. F. Watson) reported that the attendance, notwithstanding tho boisterous weather which has prevailed throughout tho month, had been very good. Tho inspector had spent four days at the school, but his report was not yet to band. Tho headmaster's examination of all classes up to Standard V bad been completed, and the examination of Standard VI was proceeding. It was decided to obtain prices for renovating tho tennis courts. A communication was received from the Borough Council stating that tho Mayor and Councillors Haydon and Nathan had been appointed to wait on the committee in reference to the erection of the proposed swimming bath at the school, it being suggested that representatives from the College Street and Terrace End Schools should also bo invited to be present. The matter was fully discussed, but it was decided to bold over the proposed conference till after tho general election. A special meeting of the committee (to further consider the question) is to be hold in the meantime.
The trustees of the estate of the lato Mrs. E. Eeid, of Palmerston, have made a special gift, of .£IOO to the local Congregational Church.
Court Manawatu, A.0.F., held its ordinary meeting last evening, Bro. flosanowski, P.C.8., being iu the chair. Ono new member was initiated, and nominations for officers for the ensuing teVm wero received. Tho balance-sheet of tho anniversary showed a profit of £6 6s. The District Nursing Coinmitteo held its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon, when Nurso Lonorgan submitted a report on the month's work. A gift of an invalid's chair was received from Miss E. ■H. MTvenzie.
The police are taking measures to regulato vehicular traffic in Palmcrston. At the Police Court a. number of drivers have been fined for proceeding around corners at a fast pace. . A boy named Edwin Johanseu, whilo wrestling with another boy last oyening, had his left leg broken.
