COLLECTIONS ON SATURDAY, There is said to bo a certain tightness in the public purso at present, but tho collectors of the St. John Ambulance Association had a fairly prosperous time of it in the streets of Wellington on Saturday. With a couple of boxes still to come in, the amount collected stands at .£l2B 2s. 3d., and the total collection will bo larger bv a pound or two than that of last venr. During the morning and ofternoon the work of extracting the useful shilling and coins of humbler denomination was carried on by ladies, btit in the evening their places were takon by mule helpMs. As is usual on "Ambulance Day,'' tho bowling greens about tho city were raided by lady collectors during the e.iternoon, with results of substantial benefit to Ibo funds of the SI.
