South Canterbury teachers (meeting as a branch of the New Zealand Edui rational Institute) passed with acclamation congratulations to Mr. J. G. Gow on the completion of 25 years of inspectorship under the South Canterbury Board, Leading teachers spoke highly of his good qualities as an inspector.—Press Association. Mr. Philip Newbury, the eminent tenor, has been engaged by tho Wellington Musical Union lo sing tho name part in Gounod's "I'aust," which is to be presented in concert form at tho Town Hall to-morrow week, The death occurred yesterday at her residenoo, Hobson Crescent, of Mrs. Logan, wife of Mr. J. K. Logan, formerly Director of Electrio Lines for New Zealand. Mr. Robert LacbJao Macalister, of the Solicitor's Department of tho Public Trust Office, was admitted as a solicitor on Saturday by the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) on the motion of Mr, J, W. Maccjonald. Mr, Macalister is a son of tho' late Mr, S, J. Macalister, of Plcton.
