In tho Federal House of Representatives,' Mr. Deakin, Leader of tho Opposition, declared that there was no public demand for a Federal Savings Bank. The proposal had emanated from a theoretical cause. Under nationalisation of tho banking business tho States would bo deprived of opportunities of growth. Mr. Fisher, Prime Minister and Treasurer, was of opinion that an essential part of the Commonwealth banking scheme was that the States would not be embarrassed. Ho read a memorandum from the State Premiers objecting to the provisions of tho Bill.
